Cavs GM And Owner At Disagreement With Number One Pick; Rudy Gay And Al Horford Being Targeted?

Owner Wants Williams?

The debate between Duke point guard Kyrie Irving and Arizona forward Derrick Williams is well, still a debate, in the front office of Cleveland.

With that said, here’s a juicy rumor to report complimentary via Mitch Lawerence of the New York Daily News:

Maybe it’s only a smokescreen, but word came out of Cleveland this past week that there is a split on whom the Cavs will take with the No. 1 pick in Thursday’s draft. GM Chris Grant wants Kyrie Irving, the Duke playmaker out of West Orange, N.J. But owner Dan Gilbert is said to favor Arizona forward Derrick Williams.

Here’s all you need to know about the draft: No matter whom the Cavs take at No. 1, and we’re betting it’s Irving, they’re not getting LeBron James or anything close.

It appears as if management has no idea what they’re doing, right?  Or is it only the owner who seems to be out of his mind?

I hope this rumor is untrue, I really do.  Kyrie Irving is the man at No. 1, hands down.  Debate over.  There’s no “decision” in this case.  Surely, you cannot pass up on a potential franchise-altering floor general.

An “ordinary” Williams, on the other hand, will find ways to get easy buckets – but will he find a way to become an perennial All-Star, like Kyrie?

Ultimately, in short, there’s not much of a chance.  How am I so sold on Irving, while the Cavs owner is not?

Possibly, this might be the reason why he’s the Owner and not the General Manager.  Simply put, it’s as true as it gets.  Get a clue, Danny Boy.
