It looks like the Cavs are going to get the coach they wanted after Tom Izzo turned them down after all. Reports are coming in from ESPN’s Chris Broussard stating that Byron Scott is in talks with the team to be the new head coach, and Yahoo reported on it as well early this morning:
Byron Scott told Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears that he would like the head-coaching job with the Cleveland Cavaliers regardless of whether Phil Jackson retires and leaves an opening with his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, or LeBron James decides to go elsewhere.
“I’m not sitting and waiting on Phil Jackson,” Scott told Spears. “That ain’t me. I’m not waiting on anybody.”
But he has not received an offer from the Cavaliers, Spears notes. Scott has gone through two interviews with the team as well as having numerous phone discussions.
One has to wonder if with Scott aboard it will mean anything to a mega star named LeBron James?
