Now that the season is over, the talk of LeBron James staying or going will also have a direct impact on if Mike Brown remains as the teams head coach. There’s been rumblings for awhile that James and his inner circle hasn’t been all that happy with Brown, and recent events have done nothing to change that.
Frank Isola of the NY Daily News reports on Brown leaving if James says he wants to stay in his hometown, and frankly, it makes sense:
Of course, if LeBron remains in Cleveland he will likely have a new coach as well. LeBron was critical of head coach Mike Brown after the club’s Game 4 loss and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert was critical of the team following Tuesday’s abysmal performance in Game 5.
When asked on Wednesday if Brown was being outcoached, LeBron said: “I’m not going to get involved in that. That’s for you guys to write. It’s at a point where you’re trying to divide the coaching staff, the team and the players. But I’m not going to get involved in that.”
A coaching change could help Cleveland retain its best player. The Cavs next coach would come with LeBron’s blessing and consider the way LeBron played and the way the Cavs season ended, he may feel that he owes it to Cleveland to stick around.
You just know that Dan Gilbert is going to ask James who he wants to run the show. If he says someone other than Brown, it would come as no shock based on what has happened in the last two playoff setbacks.
