CLEVELAND- As the Detroit Pistons made their way to Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers, there might have been something else also on the minds of the Cavaliers. That being Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Tomorrow is the first day that Ilgauskas and the Cavaliers can negotiate a contract to make Ilgauskas a Cavalier once again. It would be the final move that the Cavaliers are hoping will complete the puzzle for an NBA Championship. Also as the season nears an end the Cavaliers have a 3 1/2 game lead over the Lakers for the over all best record in the NBA and they would like to extend that. Keep in mind if the Cavaliers and Lakers tie for the best record, the Cavaliers own the tie breaker winning both match ups this year.
The Cavaliers were able to handle this match up with ease as they defeated the Detroit Pistons 104-79. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was Leon Powe with 16 points followed by Lebron James and Delonte West whom both had 15 points.
Coming into tonight’s game there has been questions surfacing on whether or not this team has been playing with a competitive edge. “One thing I talked to the guys about is playing with a competitive edge,” said coach Mike Brown during a post game interview, “I felt we had an competitive edge tonight and we have to keep building on it because it’s a long season.” but when coach Brown talked about the past few games he said: “I didn’t think our edge was there.”
During his post game interview, LeBron James talked about the team tring to get better saying: “It’s about not wasting an opportunity, whether that’s in practice or in a game. We are at a point where you don’t want to take any type of steps back going into the playoffs. We’re going to try and finish out the season the right way.”
I hope that after the Cavaliers are able to get Zydrunas Ilgauskas back in uniform that the chemistry of the team is not hampered to much. The one thing about the Cavaliers, is the fact that they have been able to shine every time needed when something has happen to change the look or health of this team. Their NBA best record now is at 56-15. The Cavaliers look to improve that as they travel to New Orleans March 24th to take on the Hornets.
