LEBRON JAMES TOPS ALL PLAYERS IN ALL-STAR BALLOTING WITH OVER 2.5 MILLION VOTES
BECOMES THE FIRST CAVALIER SELECTED TO SIX ALL-STAR GAMES
CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James has been voted as a starter to the 2010 Eastern Conference All-Star team by the fans, it was announced today by the NBA. James finished as the leading vote-getter in the NBA All-Star Balloting program with 2,549,693 total votes. He became the first player in balloting history to draw at least 2.5 million votes on three separate occasions and this marks the second time in his career that he was the leading vote-getter in All-Star balloting (2007).
With his sixth consecutive selection to the All-Star team, James becomes the first Cavalier in franchise history to be named an all-star on six occasions. He joins Kobe Bryant of the L.A. Lakers and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs as the only three players to have been selected as starters for each of the last six All-Star Games.
James’ 23.4 points per game average entering this year’s game is the highest average in NBA All-Star Game history for players with three or more appearances or a minimum of 60 points scored. In the 2009 All-Star Game in Phoenix, James scored a team-high 20 points on 8-19 (.421) shooting while adding five rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes. A two-time All-Star Game MVP (2006, 2008), he has averages of 23.4 points on .516 shooting, 6.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game in five all-star appearances.
In 43 games played this season, James has averaged 29.6 points on .510 shooting, 7.2 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.0 block in 38.7 minutes per game. He is the only player in the league averaging at least 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists and one of only two players (Gilbert Arenas) ranking in the top 10 in both scoring average (2nd) and assists per game (7th). Entering tonight’s game versus the Los Angeles Lakers, the reigning MVP is posting career bests in field goal percentage (.510), three-point shooting (.359), free throw percentage (.782) and assists per game (7.8). He has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on three occasions and earned Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors for Oct.-Nov. and December this season.
The 59th NBA All-Star Game will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX on Sunday, February 14th at 8:00 p.m. ET.

wait, how can this be??? he doesn’t play in new york or los angeles or chicago. surely he can’t possibly get as much media exposure and get all his just desserts in little ol’ cleveland??? if my memory serves me right, kobe bryant and the lakers won the nba title last season and yet it is james who beats out kobe for the most votes in the all-star game??? so much for being a big fish in a small pond. lebron doesn’t need new york, new york needs him and i got news for ‘em – they ain’t getting him!!!
