Cavaliers Step Up Their Defense In The Second Half To Beat The Raptors 108-100

CLEVELAND- It was a great night for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland as the Cavaliers Commence 2010 Black Heritage Celebration with Martin Luther King Jr. Night. On hand to celebrate the were Black Sports Legends were former Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown, former Ohio State football wide receiver Cris Carter, former Cleveland Indians pitcher Jim “mudcat” Grant and former Ohio State basketball player Jimmy Jackson. This help set up a strong performance by the Cavaliers and make for a great game as the Toronto Raptors were in town seeking their second win in Cleveland.

It was a great battle at the Cavaliers and Raptors were going back and forth in scoring and were tied at the end of the first period 28-28. The second period didn’t seem much different as the but the Cavaliers were able to outscore the Raptors 34-32 to give them a 62-60 half time lead. The difference maker in the game was the third period as the Cavaliers stepped up their defense and outscored the Raptors 29-23 to extend their lead to 8 points. Then in the forth period the Cavaliers and the Raptors both scored the same 17-17 as the Cavaliers got their second win in a row 108-100.

During the game Shaquille O’Neal became only the fifth player in NBA history to eclipse 28,000 points and is fifth in all time scoring in the NBA. “I don’t really think about it,” said Shaquille O’Neal, “I have always considered myself a consistent player. The only fall back for me is I missed five thousand free throws. If I would of hit at least half of those then I would be at thirty thousand points. I am happy at being number five. There are some great names in front of me and there are some great name behind me.”

LeBron James lead the way for the Cavaliers with 28 points, 11 assist, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots just 1 rebound away from a double double. Mo Williams had 22 points, 10 assist and 3 rebounds. Shaquille O’Neal  had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assist.

The Cavaliers now repair for their second meeting with the L.A. Lakers which will take place Thursday at the Q. Tip off is at 8:00.
