LEBRON JAMES NAMED NBA’S EASTERN CONFERENCE

PLAYER OF THE MONTH PRESENTED BY KIA MOTORS

FOR THE 12TH TIME IN HIS CAREER

CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was named today as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Month presented by KIA Motors for games played in the months of October and November.

James averaged 29.2 points on .523 shooting, 6.7 rebounds and 8.0 assists in 37.9 minutes per game, leading the Cavs to a 12-5 (.706) start to the season.  James has now won the award for the 12th time in his career and fourth November (2004, 2005, 2008, 2009): for the first time this season, four times in 2008-09; two times during 2007-08, once in 2006-07, twice in 2005-06 and twice during the 2004-05 campaign.

During the month, James ranked first in triple-doubles (1), points per game (29.2) and field goals made per game (10.0), second in assists per game (8.0) and third in free throws made per game (7.6) among Eastern Conference players. He is the only player in the league this season to score at least 31 points per game in an eight of nine game span (Nov 6 – 25).

James scored 38 points, including shooting 10-13 (.769) from the line, dished out eight assists and had a game-high four blocks versus the Celtics on Oct. 27th.  His 38 points set a Cavaliers record for points in a season opener and with his seven points in the first quarter, he became the youngest player to score 13,000 points (24 years, 301 days old).  The following night at Toronto, he recorded his 25th career triple-double and his third against the Raptors with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.  His 12 assists are the most the Raptors have ever given up to one player in a season opener.

In the Cavs 102-93 victory at Orlando, James scored 23 of his game-high 36 points in the first half, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists helping the Cavs snap a three-game losing streak at Orlando.  James posted a double-double with 31 points and 12 assists in a win over the Golden State Warriors on November 17th at Quicken Loans Arena and at Indiana on Nov. 20, he finished with a season-high 40 points, scoring 22 points on 8-11 shooting (.727) from the field in the first half, nine rebounds and seven assists in a 105-95 win over the Pacers.

James posted his third double-double of the season, scoring 25 points and dishing out 11 of his season-high tying 12 assists in the first half versus the Mavericks on Nov. 28th.  The victory over Dallas helped Cleveland improve their home record to 6-2 (.750) during the months of October and November and makes Cleveland the only Eastern Conference team to remain undefeated against the Western Conference this season (still undefeated at 5-0).

The Denver Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony was named the Western Conference Player of the Month.  Other nominees for Eastern Conference Player of the Month presented by Kia Motors were Atlanta’s Josh Smith, Miami’s Dwyane Wade and Orlando’s Dwight Howard.
