CLEVELAND- It was a night with a lot of expectations, not only of the players but also of head coach Mike Brown. The Cavalier are coming off an impressive win against the Dallas Maverick on Saturday and are looking to make a bigger statement against one of the hottest teams in the Phoenix Suns. Although the Suns are coming off their biggest disappointment, losing to the New York Knicks 126-99.
The Cavalier came out and didn’t disappoint their fans as the continued their dominate play. In the first half the Cavaliers outscored the Suns 57-29. At this point It was important to see how they would finish with this big of a lead. Even though they were outscored in the second half, they didn’t let the Suns take off on any big runs. In the end the Cavalier came out with an impressive 17 point victory, winning 107-90.
Head coach Mike Brown also didn’t let down the fans as he inserted Zydrunas Ilgauskas midway in the first quarter, giving Ilgauskas the franchise record for most games played as a Cavalier at 724. “First of all I would like to thank the fans for their reception tonight”, said Ilgauskas, “That was one of the coolest things that I experienced in my life, and also the closet I come to tears on the basketball court. I’m very much appreciate. I want to thank them.”
Although Ilgausgas was very happy for his achievement, he did not hesitate to express his feeling on the past few days after being left on the bench for the Dallas Maverick game. “Obviously I was very disappointed that I didn’t play in the last game,” said Ilgauskas, “I know I’m a good player. I think by my playing in that game, I would have not affected the outcome of the game.” All week the media, fans and players mad this situation bigger than it had to be. It got to the point where some were calling this Z-gate or DNP-gate. Both name I feel are uncalled for. It nice to see the record has been completed and I hope the media, fans and players can get back to concentrating on just basketball.
Zydrunas Igausgas led the way with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. J.J. Hickson had 13 points and 8 rebounds. LeBron James had 12 points, 10 assist and 8 rebounds. Shaquille O’Neal had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 1 blocked shot. Mo Williams had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assist. Anthony Parker has 10 points and 3 rebounds, and Daniel Gibson had 10 points, 4 assist and 1 rebound.
