(Exton, PA-September 9, 2009)— Hunt Auctions, an 18-year veteran of the sports memorabilia auction industry, in conjunction with Upper Deck Authenticated, will offer select memorabilia from Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James as a part of a 300-plus lot of basketball memorabilia to be auctioned live September 17th, 2009 at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago.
After pledging himself to support President Obama’s campaign during the 2008-09 season, LeBron James wore a special pair of sneakers dedicated to the President in a game just three days after the President’s inauguration. The pair of LeBron James’ Autographed blue-and-white Nike Sneakers to be auctioned bears the large handwritten inscription ”44th President Barack Obama” across the front. Worn
As LeBron hit a 19-foot buzzer beating jump shot to defeat the Golden State Warriors on January 23, 2009, the shoes are an absolutely unique tribute and are expected to bring $5,000-$7,000.
Also available is a game worn autographed Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James white home jersey, A pair of worn autographed black leather Nike sneakers to be auctioned which were worn by LeBron on a night he compiled a triple-double agaonst the Memphis Grizzlies.
“The significance and popularity of these items at such an early point in LeBron James career is a testament to the influence he has had on the NBA in his short tenure,” said David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions.
Also up for auction is a private collection of Michael Jordan memorabilia that includes several notably significant pieces, including a selection of items from the famed 1992 USA Olympic Basketball “Dream Team”. Of particular interest is Jordan’s warm up jacket from the 1992 games in Barcelona. The white satin jacket with blue and white trim is autographed by the two-time gold medalist, The 125-lot collection is being offered for the first time publicly with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the James Jordan Foundation.
Many significant pieces from Jordan’s substantial golf collection will also be available, and while not all of the equipment was employed ny the avid golfer, some clubs and bags showing substantial use were favorites of his. This group of items expected to fetch $30,000-$40,000, is being sold to benefit the James Jordan Foundation.
