CLEVELAND- According to a Spanish Web site, Cleveland Cavaliers first-round pick Christian Eyenga has signed a new contract less than a week after completing summer league with the Cavaliers. The contract was signed with DKV Joventut in Spain.
The web site Sportando.net, which tracks basketball in Europe, reported the story on Wednesday. The story has yet to be confirmed, but Eyenga declined to discuss his contract situation.
The Cavaliers will maintain his rights. It is unclear whether the contract has opt-out clauses or if it has a significant buyout to come to the NBA. The Cavs wanted to sign him to his slotted two year, $2 million contract so that he would be able to work on his game splitting time between Cleveland and Erie, PA. in the NBA Development League.
If this is report is confirmed, will the Cavs look to sign another free agent or is it still content with the team it has. This is something that Danny Ferry, Mike Brown and Dan Gilbert will have to sit down and discuss.
