LAS VEGAS- As the summer league plays on, so does the rumor mills of players and teams. According to my source in Las Vegas, free agent Matt Barnes is waiting by the phone for a call from Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry.

As the summer league has been progressing, Cavs G.M. Ferry has vanished. When that happens that usually means he is up to something. Its nice to see just because we are in the off season, Ferry is not taking time off. He is keeping his eye on the organization and doing what it takes to make it the best it can possibly be.

Free agent Matt Barnes 6-foot-9, 226 pound guard/forward, played last season in Phoenix with newly acquired Shaquille O’Neal. In the 2006-07 season, he made 106. After joining Golden State, Matt’s offense improved impressively, from 3 points a game in Philadelphia to 9.8, appearing in 76 games. He also added a strong 2007 post-season, with 11.1 ppg and 5.7 rpg in eleven playoff games and helped the #8 seed Warriors take down the #1 seed Mavericks in the 2007 playoffs. In 2008-09 season Matt played in 77 games where he averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assist in 27.0 minutes per game.

If the Cleveland Cavaliers where able to get Matt Barnes and If Christian Eyenga keeps playing the way his is in summer league, the bench for the Cavaliers could be in amazing shape. This would also give the Cavs outside shooting, something they could of used last season against Orlando. LeBron James has to like what he is seeing.
